Calling all Groups and Artists - you owe it to yourself to read on ...
Smoker or non smoker - at the present rate, the English Pub will soon be a thing of the past. Pubs are closing at the rate of 4 a DAY - due mainly to the smoking ban. Many of these pubs have been in business for hundreds of years and were the focal point of village and town life. The bands of non smokers that were supposed to be eagerly waiting to inhale the new pubs smells of BO, Stale Beer and toilet smells have stayed away in droves. Pubs are empty and the streets are full of people huddling out of the rain trying to have a fag. Trying to play live music when 75% your audience is not even in the same building as you is, to say the least depressing. The there is the noise issue - with the door being opened every 2seconds annoying the neighbors. There HAS to be another way - so that landlords can choose to be smoking or non smoking - or possibly both. I don't give a kipper's dick if this is PC, popular or not - it is a fact. Social engineering is the job of dictators - not civil servants. Click here to join the fight. Apathy is not a option.

We are looking for New Talent - Do you think you have what it takes

Here's the deal....

This is what we want from you ..

We are actively looking for new talent to showcase and record. If you can answer yes to these questions - we want to hear from you.

  • Are you based in Devon?
  • Do you write your own material?
  • Do you honestly think you "have what it takes" to make it in music (be honest with yourself)?
  • Are you willing to make a commitment (not financial)?
  • Do you believe you could reach a massive audience - if only you had the right deal?
  • Do you want more gigs and help promoting yourself?
  • Are you willing to commit some time to making a test recording?

This is what we are proposing...

  • We will come along to a gig and have a listen. If we think it's worth some time ...
  • We will arrange with you to come along and record a live gig using our mobile 16 track and see what we get. If we can we will also video the gig. When we listen to the recording if the quality is good enough ...
  • We will remix it at the studio. If it's not too good, we will give you a copy of the rough mix with our blessing and that's the end of it. Once remixed ..
  • We will offer you a 5 track demo deal for £100. This will give you up to 5 tracks from your live recording (with a little studio work if required), full artwork and 20 copies of the finished article in jewel cases. If you don't want the deal - no problem (although we retain the copyright on the actual recordings). If that's as far as you want to go then great. If you are really awesome ...
  • We will offer you enough studio time to make an album. We will release it on thinicemusic. We will promote it via YouTube, local radio, national radio and will make the album available via ITunes and Napster (via our online publishing deal).
  • If appropriate, we will organise and finance a tour to promote the album.

What are the risks?....

Well - nothing comes without risk in this life but, the way forward is to minimise the downsides whilst maximising returns for everyone.

This is what we want from you....

  • First and foremost - commitment. Without that, nothing is ever going to happen - no matter how good you think you are. Egos are strictly not welcome.
  • We will want to you to sign an exclusivity agreement with us at the demo CD stage. This means that we are protecting our time and investment in you. It effectively means that, whilst we are working on and promoting the album, you cannot record or enter into a management or promotional deal without our permission. It also means that any material we record cannot subsequently be released without our express permission. You will also have to agree to us retaining any merchandising rights in connection with the album.
  • Time in the studio, promoting, mixing and management time will be noted and, in theory, charged for. BUT - If we fail to sell sufficient copies (or make sufficient money through promotion, merchandising etc..), then you will owe us nothing. If we do, then these costs will be recouped from initial sales. This means that, at first, if we sell loads of copies, we will appear to make more than you - this is just because, we have already spent that time and money on your behalf. Copies of client statements as we call them, are available at any time - so you know just where you stand.
  • We will maintain royalty statements (these are paid quarterly in arrears) for all copies sold (either mechanically or electronically) and these will be tracked Worldwide by our unique ISRC database registration. At the time of writing, the revenue from each track copy downloaded on ITunes in the UK is around 35p. The split ratio between you and us in this case would be 20p for you and 15p for us. If that doesn't sound a lot - just think - if you sell 1million copies Worldwide of a 10 track album, you will get £2.00 per album - which should be enough for a new guitar.
  • We will ask you to sign to us for a minimum of three years from first studio time. If you are very successful, we will try our hardest to get you signed to a major label. We see ourselves as a "feeder" organisation and have no real ambition to become a mainstream player. Naturally, if you are signed to us and a major label is interested, then we can make money by selling your contract - sounds harsh, but it's the way of the World.

What you can expect from us....

  • Honesty and fairness. Without these, life is just about money - we want it to about music (though money comes in very handy at times).
  • Dedication to the project in hand. We will try our hardest to produce what we set out to do with you.
  • Even handed approach. We all know that even with the best plans, things sometimes don't work out as they should. If we all decide the project is going nowhere, then we will all talk it through so that we can all walk away and remain friends.
  • Professional (though sometimes chaotic) approach to the job in hand. We will work tirelessly to promote the finished article. Quite how this will actually be achieved will depend on the market we are looking for - no point in trying to promote heavy metal thrash on Radio 2.
  • Fun. After all - that's what is is all about. Enjoying being creative and becoming rich and famous.

Interested - Click here to contact us (send an MP3 if you have it)

Cheers - Paul
