The Smoking Ban is Killing off our Pubs.
Thin Ice music is teaming up with Freedom2choose.info to champion the return of smoking in our pubs. I am doing this - not because I think that smoking is a good thing - but for 2 reasons. Firstly, if we don't take a stand on this, then we simply won't have any pubs left to play music in. Secondly, because I am sick and tired of this so call government telling me and everyone else what we should be thinking. Quite frankly, I think people can make up their own minds on things like this. We should have a framework in law so that, if a landlord decides against allowing smoking - then he can enforce his decision in law. We don't need that decision being made for us by a nanny state. There are many arguments on both sides of the coin as to the rights and wrongs and the "rights" of non smokers. I think it only right and polite to ban smoking in restaurants, public buildings, public transport and the like - in fact anywhere where non-smokers HAVE to go. But in a pub? If non smokers don't want to smell of smoke - don't go into a smoking pub - sounds simple and logical to me.I know everyone bangs on about passive smoking - I personally think that is a load of old bull but, if you believe in this, then I refer you to what I said above - just stay away from it. Face facts - pubs are empty, landlords are going bust, the "heart" of towns and villages are being ripped out. Our social life is being decimated and most non smokers don't even bloody well drink and those who do are fed up with empty pubs and we end up with smokers and non smokers all outside -for the company. The pub used to be a place where one could escape from the ever increasing pace and pressures of modern life, have a few pints a nice chat and put the World to rights. Now it's emblazoned with the Big Brother non smoking emblems and the constant fear that the stranger in the corner might be one of the smoking Stazi. How long before they start counting your drinks and you get an £80 fine in the post for drinking more than is good for you? Come on Britain - WAKE UP - before it's too late. We are putting together an EP of songs aimed at raising money and awareness' for Freedom2choose. Our first song is the old "Hound Dog" Taylor classic Gimme Back my Wig. The idea is to change the lyrics to Gimme Back my Pub and we will re-record the vocals.
